Spring in Korea always reminds people of the romantic sight of falling cherry blossoms—maybe it’s a side effect of K-dramas?
In search of more options, I made a special trip to Guangyang Plum Blossom Village last spring. It turns out that spring beauty isn’t limited to cherry blossoms...
Guangyang is located in South Jeolla Province, near Hadong County. The plum blossom village sits atop a mountain, with a distant view of the ten-mile cherry blossom road in Hadong.
When I visited in late March, it was a bit late for plum blossoms—just imagine how stunning the village must be at its peak.
Walking into the village, I saw many Chinese and Korean poems about plum blossoms. Reading poetry under the plum trees, I suddenly felt like an ancient literati—so refined, haha...
Plum blossoms paired with traditional Korean houses gave off a somewhat melancholic vibe.
Oh, right—I remembered, it’s all because of that iconic scene from the Korean drama "Iljimae" where Lee Joon-gi’s character (a masked hero with incredible martial arts skills) kisses the noble heroine on the rooftop of a hanok as plum blossoms fall, but their future is uncertain—what’s a dashing oppa to do...
It’s all the K-drama’s fault... Oppa...
Coming back to reality—whether it’s a couple enjoying the view under the plum trees or a solo girl soaking in the sunlight, it’s already a little romantic happiness :)
Venturing further into the village, I stumbled upon a small lake. Plum petals, pink and delicate, floated on the water—it was truly breathtaking.
The village also has many unique bronze and stone sculptures, adding a lively touch to the plum groves.
Climbing up the mountain and looking back, the village, blanketed in blooming plum blossoms, felt like a hidden paradise.

Guangyang Plum Blossom Village is closer to Hadong County, so I chose to take a taxi from Hadong Bus Terminal directly to the plum blossom village—a roughly fifteen-minute ride.
