This article takes you to the Lion City—Singapore—to explore its butterfly shadows. Although Singapore also experiences the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, temperatures remain between 25-35 degrees Celsius throughout the year. According to official data, more than 300 species of butterflies have been recorded in Singapore. Before this trip to the Lion City, I gathered some local butterfly-spotting spots from fellow butterfly enthusiasts, one of which is Dairy Farm Nature Park—a national park that resembles Hong Kong's Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve. It’s lush and green with a serene environment. What’s special is that it is an urban butterfly haven, and a hidden gem in the city. I’ve also included some tips I learned from my local friends. When it comes to Singaporeans, their passion and enthusiasm for butterflies are no less than—arguably even stronger than—that of people in Hong Kong. Some major theme parks such as SINGAPORE ZOO and SENTOSA even have dedicated butterfly gardens, home to various species from around the world. There are butterflies of all sizes, with over 2,000 species bred on-site. Butterfly enthusiasts can visit these places to witness their beauty. And if you’re still yearning to see more butterflies before boarding your flight, and don’t want to leave this butterfly-filled country with a heavy heart, Changi Airport has got you covered. I’d recommend setting aside an extra hour at TERMINAL 3, where there is a butterfly garden featuring about 20–30 species. Butterfly enthusiasts can make a final stop here for some last-minute shooting. But don’t forget your flight time—don’t blame me if you miss your plane...^^ Most flights to and from Hong Kong arrive at TERMINAL 2.
