Watch the stars and sunrise to welcome 2019 – Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert

As the New Year approaches, people across Taiwan gather to witness the first ray of sunlight. The 17th edition of the “Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert” will be held at the Dui Gao Yue Observation Platform in Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. In addition to the concert, the event showcases Alishan’s ecology and culture. The site decoration, created by local indigenous artists, incorporates Tsou tribal motifs into the natural surroundings, offering a holistic spiritual experience.

From December 29 for three consecutive days, there will be small-scale concerts at the Xianglin Service Area, Xianglin Sacred Tree Theater, and Zhu Shan Observation Platform within Alishan National Forest Recreation Area. These events feature performances by the Tsou Children's Choir of Alishan’s Dance and Music Angels, Shanmei Danaiyu, and the 45-Degree Band of Dabang, bringing the beautiful sounds of the Tsou people.
 
Also, for three consecutive mornings from 5 AM to 7 AM, there will be astronomical talks before sunrise at the Ogasawara Observation Deck. On the evening of December 31 starting at 6 PM, stargazing activities and a New Year’s Eve countdown will take place on the second floor of Alishan Railway Station.

The main event of the Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert this year invites Tsou singer Gao Huijun and Amis singer Suming. Together with the Youth Group of the Le Xing Zhi Shi Orchestra, they will perform songs that weave forest and human culture together, set against the ambiance of the day and accompanied by the Tsou elders’ blessing ceremony.

On New Year’s Day, in coordination with the Tourism Bureau’s “Three Locations Welcoming the First Light – Fuxian Mountain Connection Event,” you can also simultaneously view the sunrises at Sanxiantai and Fulong during the Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert.

The Alishan Sunrise Impression Concert is held at an altitude of over 2,400 meters, where temperatures generally stay in the single digits. Participants should prepare warm clothing. Free hand warmers and brown sugar ginger tea will also be provided on-site.
