I recently attended an exchange event in northeastern Japan and discovered that the region has so much to offer—various lively festivals, breathtaking natural scenery, delicious food, and Japanese sake. These unique features have made northeastern Japan a rising hotspot for travel in recent years. In addition, the local authorities have been actively expanding transportation links between Sendai Airport and the region. In the past six months, four new express bus routes have been introduced, making it easier than ever to explore the area.
1. Sendai Airport ~ To Fukushima and Aizu-Wakamatsu
In November 2016, an express bus route between Sendai Airport and Fukushima was officially launched, allowing visitors to more conveniently reach areas such as Fukushima, Nihonmatsu, and Aizu-Wakamatsu. The bus stops at multiple stations, making it convenient for both sightseeing and transferring to other modes of transport.

2. Sendai Airport ~ To Matsushima and Hiraizumi
This bus route was originally designed for the convenience of local residents. However, due to the increasing number of tourists, it was relaunched in January 2017 after being revised. Not only were the number of buses increased and more sightseeing spots added as stops, but a sightseeing loop bus operating on the same route was also introduced, with guides on board providing information about local attractions.

3. Sendai Airport ~ To Kisakata and Sakata
The bus route from Sendai Airport to Tsuruoka and Sakata was officially launched in April 2017, with a total of 5 stops along the way. It operates twice a day between Sendai Airport and Sakata Shōkō Bus Terminal. Please note that this route operates on a “designated seating system.” Passengers can make a reservation up to one month before departure, but if seats are available on the day, they may also board on the spot.
