Outdoor Rafting Tips

Get Ready to Go:Before getting on the raft or boat, follow the staff’s instructions, wear a life jacket, and only bring items that can get wet. Store any non-waterproof belongings securely. Once you’re all set, you’re good to go.

Make Good Use of the Paddle:During the rafting trip, the paddle is a valuable tool. When the current is weak, use it to gain momentum and steer the raft to avoid being pushed to the side or getting stuck around bends. If you’re playing in the water and forgot to bring any tools, the paddle can also serve as a surprisingly effective “weapon”—just be sure to use it safely.

The Fun of Rafting:Generally, rafting involves going downstream from the start to the end point, and the length is fixed. To extend the rafting time, try paddling upstream—it’s a challenge and can even turn into a race with your companions to see who can go the farthest against the current. In calm waters, you can play water games, have water fights, or bump into other rubber rafts. Just remember to stay safe and avoid capsizing due to collisions in fast currents.

Emergency Handling During Rafting:There are some unexpected situations to watch out for during rafting. If you capsize, don’t panic. Thanks to your life jacket, you’re usually not in danger. If the water is shallow, simply stand up and be mindful of other boats coming behind you. If the water is deep, use the buoyancy of your life jacket to swim to shore and get out of the water. For other issues like getting stuck or grounded, see if you can free the raft using your paddle or by having another boat nudge it loose. There are usually staff members on the shore whom you can call for help.
