No more delays！After 20 years, Taiwan’s only directly operated Xiangji City to begin trial operations on August 6

After reports of a June opening were pushed back by two months, “Xiangji City” is finally set to begin trial operations on August 6. After 20 years, Xiangji City is making its comeback！The new-generation Xiangji City is being managed by the third generation of the family, and the store is located on Bali’s Left Bank in New Taipei City.

Twenty years ago, “Xiangji City” rapidly expanded across Taiwan with its “hand-pulled chicken.” The fragrant hand-pulled chicken and those thin plastic gloves are childhood memories for many born in the 1960s and 70s. This comeback of Xiangji City is led by the third generation restarting the business, adopting a new directly operated model (the first fully directly operated store in Taiwan) while retaining the classic taste.

In 1984, Taiwan’s first hand-pulled chicken shop — Xiangji City — was established by Leshan Company, which started in the poultry farming business. Later, the operation and franchising of Xiangji City were discontinued, and the family shifted focus to meat import trade and food manufacturing. However, the third generation, seeing foreign brands continuously entering Taiwan, decided to bring back Taiwan’s own Xiangji City.

As for what is known as Taiwan’s last Xiangji City in Yilan, according to responses to reader inquiries on the “Xiangji City #New Era Xiangji City” Facebook page, the Yilan Xiangji City was a franchise store at the time. After the authorization for franchising was stopped, it was not forcibly shut down out of consideration for old relationships, but in reality, Yilan Xiangji City no longer belongs to the original founding store.
