Plastic shopping bags are something everyone is very familiar with, butoutdoor activities— will you bring them along? Do you know what other functions plastic shopping bags can have in the outdoors? Below, the editors at Tanlulv (Pathfinder Donkey) will share some uses of plastic shopping bags for outdoor activities. It’s important to note that most plastic bags are made of non-biodegradable materials and should not be discarded after outdoor use.

1. Wrapping Items: Place small items such as mobile phones, watches, disposable cameras, and medications into a shopping bag, fold it repeatedly, wrap it securely, and fasten it with a rubber band. This provides good waterproofing and moisture protection (it won’t leak or seep even when submerged in water for several minutes).

2. At the campsite, you can use the shopping bag as a water-carrying or water-storing tool, placing it in a depression or hanging it up high.

3. As a Shower Water Bag: Fill the shopping bag with water, hang it at an appropriate height, and poke a small hole in it. If needed, you can alsoheatsome water with a stove to adjust the water temperature to your preference. This method is very convenient and practical.

4. Use as a Bedpan When Camping: After use, tie the bag securely and place it outside the tent entrance for future emergencies.

5. In Desert Camping: Depending on your needs, you can use the shopping bag as a substitute for tent stakes by filling it with sand and burying it under the loose sand at the four corners of the tent to anchor guy lines. When the wind picks up, you can also tie the bag to the tent to enhance stability using its weight.

6. As a Trail Marker: Tie the bag to a tree branch or similar object; it will flutter in the wind and be highly visible (the rear group should retrieve it and not leave it in the wild).

7. Collecting Outdoor Trash.

The bags weigh almost nothing and are easy to carry, offering many conveniences for your trip. Feel free to add any additional uses you know of. To make the most of the multifunctionality of your gear during outdoor activities, we hope everyone will share their practical tips and tricks for using equipment (or everyday items), helping to lighten the load on your outdoor journeys.
