Third installment of early autumn floral travels: The spider lily sea at Chonun Mountain in Gochang
Gochang City is located in North Jeolla Province, most well-known to tourists for its dolmen clusters and the crimson maple foliage of Chonun Mountain in autumn.
Early autumn at Chonun Mountain also turns red — not on the trees, but photographers go wild for the vast fields of blooming spider lilies...
Spider lilies, also known as red spider lilies or higanbana, carry the meaning of separation and loss. It’s said that because the flowers and leaves never meet, forever out of sync, they are called the flowers of sorrow. But the girls were only awestruck by their beauty, feeling not a trace of sadness — haha, sorry about that : p
There are quite a few spider lilies around Chonun Mountain, and entering the area of Chonun Temple reveals an endless sea of blooms. However, the day of our visit was rather cloudy, making photography a bit challenging due to poor lighting.
After much effort, we left the flower fields and arrived at the maple valley. Without the blazing red hues or crowds of leaf-peepers, this place offered a fresh and tranquil atmosphere.
Even more unexpectedly, the most beautiful moments often happen at the very end...
On the way back, we revisited the flower field, and the gloomy sky suddenly brightened up. Sunlight broke through the clouds, illuminating the entire sea of spider lilies dazzlingly — it was truly breathtaking...
I’m truly grateful for that moment of sunlight; it was a little stroke of joy during the trip ^^

Take a high-speed bus from Seoul to Gochang (about 3+ hours), then transfer to a local bus to Chonun Mountain (30 minutes), or you can choose to take a bus from Jeongeup City to Chonun Mountain
