Check out the new landmark in Tainan first！ Admire the Anping scenery from inside a gigantic whale

In addition to visiting historical sites, strolling through old streets, sampling local snacks, and taking a canal cruise in Tainan’s Anping District, the Tainan City Government has specially invited renowned domestic artist Yang Shiyi to create “The Blessing of the Big Fish,” a massive public artwork, at Gangbin Historical Park by the Anping Harbor.

The “Blessing of the Big Fish” is a large-scale artwork measuring 23 meters in length, 10 meters in width, and 8 meters in height. It garnered widespread attention during its construction, with many people posting photos and discussions about it across social media platforms.

Artist Yang Shiyi is an artist with multiple professional identities, including photographer, director, and paper-cutting artist. For years, he has continuously explored and created in various fields, transforming his experiences of people, events, and things in life, as well as his feelings and beautiful messages about nature and life, into diverse creative works.

The upper part of the whale-shaped structure of “The Blessing of the Big Fish” is welded together using 3,714 pieces of steel pipes without using a single screw, maintaining the purity of its lines. The inner section representing Taiwan is constructed from 634 steel pipes and inlaid with 448 pieces of colored glazed glass, forming a symbolic and colorful island graphic that represents inclusiveness and diversity.

This installation artwork weighs over 20 tons. The lower part ingeniously uses the lines of the whale’s belly to support the weight of the entire structure, creating a column-free design, and visitors can even go upstairs to enter the “belly of the fish” to enjoy sea views and sunsets.
