North Korea is a mysterious, closed-off, yet highly intriguing communist country. When it comes to news about this nation, the public often takes everything with a grain of salt. As the saying goes, “Hearsay is thirty percent false, and even what you see with your own eyes may not be the whole truth.” But in North Korea, what you see with your own eyes may not reveal the full picture either—though it’s still more reliable than hearsay.
Joerg Daiber of LittleBigWorld recently visited Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea, as a tourist, and created this 5-minute time-lapse video. The footage is further enhanced with “miniature world” special effects to add a fun twist. To be honest, Pyongyang’s cityscape is simple, with few people or cars, and the scenery lacks much texture or detail—making it a perfect match for the “miniature world” effect.
Daiber revealed that all clips in the video were shot using a Panasonic Lumix GH4 and GH5, with lenses including the 14-140mm and 7-14mm. He also said that Pyongyang is, so far, the strangest and most unfamiliar place he has ever seen. At the same time, he believes it’s also one of the most interesting and fascinating places on Earth—unlike anywhere else he’s been. Daiber said, “You go there with 100 questions, and you’ll leave with 1,000!”
He also emphasized that this short film has no political agenda whatsoever. He received no support of any kind, and simply went to a place he found interesting, as he usually does, to complete his LittleBigWorld filming project.
