An indoor ski resort in Kawasaki has turned off part of its lighting due to power-saving measures.
According to reports, the period around New Year's is the peak season for skiing, yet power-saving policies are being implemented across Japan. As a result, many ski resorts have had to shut down chairlifts and reduce lighting.
At one of Japan’s few indoor ski resorts in Kawasaki, a quarter of the lighting has been turned off, making the slopes particularly dim. Currently, the main visitors are beginners and office workers who can’t travel far. A 48-year-old male guest said, “It’s okay if it’s a bit dark. Saving power is everyone’s duty these days.”
A manager at the ski resort said, “Actually, this ski resort is inherently not environmentally friendly.” It operates year-round, and even in summer, the temperature on the slopes must be kept around minus 3 degrees Celsius. Now, to save power, they have to strictly control the use of lighting and air conditioning.
