While wandering around Myeongdong this time, I stumbled upon this newly opened shop—Jecheol Andong stewed chicken.
The name “Jecheol” can be translated in various ways—you could say it means “steamed,” but I also saw it translated as “coveted” or “chosen.” I think the latter translations pair better with “man” and give off the vibe that it’s a shop run by a really cool guy (hahaha). The reason I noticed it isn’t random—their signboard is just “too big.” I passed by three times and saw it every time, so after the third sighting, I decided to go in for a meal. They had a pretty good deal on a lunchtime set menu for two on weekdays, but since I was alone, I just went ahead and ordered anyway.

It’s hard not to notice that over-the-top big sign…

On a weekday lunch, I bravely walked in alone (hahaha)
.

I arrived at 11 AM and there was no one there at first, but after 12 PM, it got super crowded—even packed up to the third floor.

I showed up a bit early and the staff were still prepping, but a super cute female server who spoke Chinese took care of me.

At lunchtime, there were special combo deals, so I went for the two-person set for 16,000 KRW—but the stewed chicken was the “original steamed chicken” classic flavor (the black one)!

Take a look at the menu—what makes this “coveted man” Andong stewed chicken so special is the wide variety of stewed chicken flavors, with a total of six options to choose from—and they all have photos, making it easy to decide. If you order à la carte, you can pick your preferred flavor. But if you go for the set menu, it comes with the classic flavor shown on the right in the photo above—and it’s spicy.

Honestly, I originally wanted to go for the white spicy cream flavor, but that wasn’t an option for the lunchtime set, which is such a bummer.

The other side dishes like kimchi and spicy sides also looked pretty delicious.

After 12 PM, the place gets packed. Since I could only order the classic version of the Andong stewed chicken, here are some of the different flavors shared by IG users for reference. Feel free to check them out—no matter which flavor you choose, you can always add cheese on top too.
