With over 30 years of history in Japan, “Hachibei Hakata Yakiniku” was introduced to Taiwan by Kanpai at the end of 2013, and currently has two branches in Taiwan. Capitalizing on Taiwan’s love for seafood, it has newly launched three great-value combinations starting today: today’s grilled seafood, daily-selected sashimi, and more — all exclusive to Taiwan.

Japanese head chef Junichi Tsuchiya heads to Nanfang’ao after the store closes to select the freshest fish of the day. The resulting today’s grilled seafood features salt-grilled fish to highlight their pure, natural flavors. The daily-selected sashimi includes a mix of ingredients such as Ishigaki sea bream, scallops, sesame red snapper, crimson shrimp, and black porgy (daily catch varies depending on weather conditions). There are also other dishes made with ingredients sourced directly from Nanfang’ao, such as steamed clams in sake and steamed yellowtail with yam.

In addition, the sweet and delicate taste of sea urchin is a seafood favorite among locals. Head chef Junichi Tsuchiya has used traditional Japanese culinary techniques to develop the “Hachibei-Style Sea Urchin Mini Rice Ball,” which pairs warm white rice with Kyushu soy sauce to bring out the balanced flavors of the rice and sweet sea urchin.

The flagship Hachibei branch, located in Taipei’s Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A4, primarily caters to business clientele on weekdays, but sees many families on weekends. To tap into the weekend family market, the restaurant has introduced a teriyaki chicken meatball hot dog, giving kids a dish they’ll love during their visit.
