Beijing time, January 31 news: The 2012 Winter X Games concluded in Colorado, USA. In the most thrilling snowboard halfpipe event, two-time Olympic champion Shaun White achieved a perfect score of 100 points, securing his fifth consecutive title in the competition.
The Winter X Games is the premier event for extreme sports. Back in 2003, 17-year-old Shaun White won the snowboard halfpipe title, and he has gone on to claim the crown five times in total, including a four-peat from 2008 to 2011. Additionally, White has also triumphed five times in freestyle snowboarding events. It’s safe to say that no one currently poses a threat to White’s dominance in the snowboard arena.
Prior to this year’s event, Shaun White suffered a left ankle sprain and did not enter the freestyle snowboarding competition. But in the halfpipe arena, the “Flying Tomato” was determined to carve out a historic five-peat.
In the competition, each athlete performs three runs, with the highest score determining their final ranking. White scored an impressive 94.00 on his first run, placing him at the top after two rounds. In the final round, White unveiled a brand-new, ultra-difficult trick — the Frontside Double Cork 1260 — becoming the first officially recognized athlete to land it. He followed up with signature moves like double McTwists at 1260 degrees. After a dazzling series of maneuvers, White finished his run to thunderous applause. Then came the score — 100 points, the maximum possible in a snowboard halfpipe event. The commentators couldn’t stop exclaiming, “Unbelievable!”
“It felt like a dream. I’ve always dreamed about scoring 100,” Shaun White said afterward, describing his feelings.
