Shida Night Market Now Has “Shrine Drinks” Too – Starting at NT$50 Each, Plus Fortune-Draw Option

The “shrine drinks” that recently debuted in Taichung are now available in Taipei too. At the entrance of an alley in Shida Night Market, there’s a small drink vending machine designed with a shrine motif, themed around a shrine’s exterior, and promoting the idea of drawing your fortune when buying a drink. By inserting coins, you can get a drink flavor corresponding to that day’s fortune. The quirky and playful packaging has drawn many people to stop and snap photos as they walk by.

The first vending machine was set up at Taichung’s “Omamori Shrine,” which also promotes the concept of drawing fortunes while buying drinks. Its exterior is designed to resemble a shrine roof, and upon closer look, each can is marked with a different fortune level. Options include Minor Good Luck, Medium Good Luck, or you can even choose love-themed omamori, academic omamori, or health omamori. In addition to selecting your favorite drink flavor, you can also choose based on the type of omamori you want to draw.
For flavors, there’s “First Love, That Little Thing” featuring fresh juice and grass jelly, as well as drinks like “Okinawa Black Sugar” and “Passion Chocolate” made with brown sugar and fresh milk. Prices range from NT$50 to NT$65. The vendor also notes on the vending machine that it is imported from Japan, and all drinks are freshly made daily. On weekdays, the machine is restocked one to two times a day, and up to three times on holidays.

This vending machine, which first launched in Taichung, has now been introduced in Taipei—not just at Shida Night Market, but also in Ximending and Tamsui. Travelers interested can check it out.
