Yichun Report by Our Correspondent Zhang Ling: On the 24th, the body of the vice president of Ganzhou Bank’s Yichun branch, who had been missing for two days while hiking alone at Mingyue Mountain, was finally found by local firefighters under a steep slope. At 2:40 pm, firefighters struggled to carry the victim’s body down to the mountain foot.
At 1:27 pm on April 23, Yichun firefighters received a report that a tourist who had gone to Mingyue Mountain for the day had not returned and was unaccounted for, prompting a request for rescue. Upon receiving the call, the fire brigade led officers and soldiers to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.
“This tourist went up the mountain alone on the 22nd and their whereabouts remain unknown,” a police officer told reporters. Given the vast mountain forest, finding the missing tourist was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
“Due to the steep terrain and significant elevation changes of the cliff, the GPS positioning system struggled to pinpoint the exact location. The area was also covered with sharp rocks and brambles, making the rescue extremely difficult,” firefighter Xiao Xu, who participated in the operation, told reporters. The search lasted over four hours without locating the tourist. As it got dark, they had no choice but to call off the mission for the time being.
The rescue team resumed the search at 5 am on the 24th. Officers trekked through dense jungle, crossed steep cliffs, and scaled mountains thousands of meters high with no established paths, eventually discovering the tourist under a steep slope.
“We found the tourist lying at the base of an abandoned sightseeing trail, on a slope with a vertical drop of at least 100 meters. When we found him, he was lying on his back, surrounded by sharp rocks. Medical personnel at the scene later confirmed that the victim had already passed away,” firefighter Xiao Xu told reporters. The firefighters then used a multi-functional stretcher to secure the body and carried it down the mountain. At 2:40 pm, the body was successfully transported to the mountain foot.
Family members who had been waiting at the foot of the mountain immediately recognized the victim as their loved one and were overcome with grief.
It is reported that local criminal police have become involved in the investigation.
