Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
Since Xiangji City reopened after a 20-year hiatus, only 150 roast chickens are available each day as only one batch can be produced every 90 minutes. As a result, number slips for ordering often run out before 4 PM during the trial operation period. Previously, number slips were handed out at noon every day, both on weekdays and holidays, but starting August 16, number slips will be given out at 2 PM on regular days, while the noon distribution remains unchanged for holidays.
The new-generation Xiangji City is operated by the third generation of the family. Chen Qiaoyu, the brand manager of Xiangji City, said that the roast chickens are all made from local Taiwanese chickens and brushed with the classic barbecue sauce passed down from the grandfather. What’s different from the past is the improved roasting method—using a multi-step process along with French-style low-temperature cooking to fully lock in the juices. In addition, the pepper salt recipe has also been inherited from the grandfather and is specially prepared in-house.
The third-generation-run Xiangji City not only preserves the secret roast chicken recipe and sauce, but also builds on the traditional way of eating roast chicken with the exclusive pepper salt by adding two innovative ways to create the “Classic Roast Chicken Creative Trio.” The first way, called the “Authentic G Way,” is to eat the chicken with the signature pepper salt. The second way, the “Healthy G Way,” pairs the roast chicken with a specially made dipping sauce and fresh seasonal vegetables, then wraps it in lettuce. The third way, the “Satisfying G Way,” drizzles roast chicken juice over an Xiangji City oil rice ball, then tears off pieces of chicken and dips them in the juice, enjoying a bite of chicken and a bite of rice ball.
