This area around Dali Street in Yancheng District has plenty of street food. The famous Xia Yi Guo (Next Pot) pan-fried pork buns are also nearby. We were originally eating at a stinky tofu stall near the park when we noticed how busy the neighboring little stall was. After finishing our stinky tofu, we went over to check it out and found out it was a chicken cutlet vendor.

There’s no sign or shop name. The owner simply uses a table and a fryer to run a very makeshift business, but it’s very popular. Some locals say this is Ah Liang’s Fragrant Chicken Cutlet, but there’s no visible sign mentioning Ah Liang.

The owner fries several pieces of chicken cutlet at a time and serves them in order of the queue. Sometimes the line gets messy, leaving newcomers unsure where to start. Remember to order directly from the owner.

The chicken cutlets are marinated, coated in sweet potato starch, then deep-fried. Frying takes time, so if you miss your batch, you’ll have to wait for the next. The cooking method is similar to that of Xia Yi Guo pan-fried pork buns. Once fried, the oil is drained first, and then chili sauce is added based on customer preference.

Fragrant Chicken Cutlet – NT$50
Holding the hot, fragrant chicken cutlet in your hand is an aroma overload — the smell of fried food and pepper wafts right into your nose. The freshly fried cutlet is super hot, so it’s best to wait until it cools down a bit before taking a bite.

The sweet potato starch coating sticks tightly to the cutlet without falling off. The owner’s frying skills are top-notch — just the crispy outer layer alone is enough to get your mouth watering.

The meat inside the cutlet is tender and juicy, well-seasoned, with juices often oozing out. The taste really resembles that of Ah Liang’s chicken cutlet. Overall, it can hold its own against other so-called Ah Liang-style chicken cutlets. No wonder many loyal locals claim that the Dali Street chicken cutlet is the best. After trying it for ourselves, we can confirm it lives up to the hype — it’s truly delicious. If you’re visiting Yancheng District, this Dali Street chicken cutlet is a must-try. It’s a great cutlet that comes highly recommended.
