Fortune-certified coin-operated “Cupid’s Milk Tea” – Drink up and get your love fortune told

When it comes to Taipei’s Dadaocheng district, the most famous spot is the Xia Hai City God Temple, known for granting love wishes with remarkable efficacy. Two millennials have blended Dadaocheng’s traditional culture with their own creativity to launch“Cupid’s Milk Tea”, and this Cupid’s Milk Tea iscertified by the Xia Hai City God Temple’s love deity. After drinking, you can uncover a hidden romantic quote inside the bottle for a love fortune-telling experience, making it a fun and whimsical way to enjoy milk tea and seek romance.

The creators behind the Cupid’s Milk Tea, “DdC Daodaochen,” are a couple. Owner Mr. Chen shared that both he and his partner grew up in Dadaocheng, witnessing firsthand its rise and decline over the years. In recent years, however, the creative cultural movement has breathed new life into this historic part of Taipei. Fond of Dadaocheng’s traditional charm, they came up with the idea of using the currently popular vending machine milk tea format to showcase local culture.

“When it comes to Dihua Street in Dadaocheng, the most famous thing is the Xia Hai City God Temple’s love deity,” Mr. Chen said with a smile. He also credited the deity for helping him successfully pursue his now-girlfriend, Ms. Zheng, whom he had liked for two years. That inspired him to combine products with the deity by creating Cupid’s Milk Tea. Before preparing and launching the product, he even consulted the deity through divination and received approval. Mr. Chen expressed his hope that with the blessing of the love god, couples could find everlasting happiness.

The traditional elements of Dadaocheng reflected in Cupid’s Milk Tea go beyond its story. Mr. Chen explained that the tea is brewed using leaves from two long-established local tea houses in Dadaocheng, and the milk comes from Guang Quan, a fresh milk brand that originated in Dadaocheng. It took them about a month to perfect the current flavor.

In terms of flavors, Cupid’s Milk Tea comes in two versions: the Taste of Love (half sugar, slightly sweet) and the Taste of a Secret Crush (three-quarters sugar, slightly sweet). Mr. Chen noted that during preparation, they added longans – a favorite of the love deity – to enhance the aroma. For fun, the bottle’s interior is designed like a fortune cookie, revealing a love-themed fortune poem once finished. Mr. Chen mentioned that many customers have commented how accurately the fortunes reflect their current situations – finding it quite magical.

In addition to helping customers find happiness in love, the team also hopes to spread positivity to more people. Therefore,the DdC Daodaochen vending machine also offers iced brew coffee in two options: black coffee and latte. Mr. Chen said that unlike the love-themed fortunes in the Cupid’s Milk Tea, the coffee bottles contain encouraging and uplifting messages, hoping to make small contributions toward making the world a better place,with a daily limit of 50 bottles.
