The Extraordinary Journey

The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc is a major long-distance trail running event in Europe and around the world. Participants must cover 169 kilometers across three countries and 15 mountain villages within 46 hours, ascending and descending a total vertical distance of 9,700 meters. The 2011 edition was the toughest since the race’s inception in 2003, with fewer than 2,500 runners completing the course. Against this extraordinary backdrop, the Vibram team showed their true colors. Five athletes, selected from 150 candidates across 12 countries, embodied Vibram’s brand values and proudly lived up to the slogan “Extraordinary Ordinary People”—five “ordinary” individuals achieving extraordinary feats. A ten-person film crew documented this athletic and personal journey from the starting point in Chamonix, focusing mainly on location shooting. The film captures the entire race, showcasing the trials and tribulations faced by the runners. It weaves together the athletes’ dialogues and reflections, creating a powerful narrative that offers a stunning portrayal of the grandeur and beauty of Mont Blanc, contrasting and sometimes paralleling the strength and vulnerability of those striving to surpass their physical and mental limits.
