High-wire walking performances are not uncommon, but lying down and sleeping on a wire is rare. On March 24, the British newspaper Daily Mail published a set of astonishing photos showing a man resting on a rope 3,000 feet (approximately 914 meters) above the ground, looking completely relaxed, as if he were lounging in a recliner. The report stated that the daring man, named Briyan, was performing this extreme stunt in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. He first balanced himself on the wire, then lay horizontally on it before standing up again and completing the rest of the walk.
Briyan also had a partner named Andy. Andy had one ankle tied to the wire and then hung upside down 2,800 feet (approximately 853 meters) above the ground. Their remarkable feat was captured by American photographer Rogers. The photographer said that within a range of 1 to 9 feet, high-wire walking is actually quite safe, but without safety measures—or like Andy, with just one ankle tied—the risk level is very high. A slip or the rope coming loose from the ankle could easily be fatal.
