Pingtung Central Market Creates Taiwan’s Only “Market Monopoly” Board Game

Transforming an old traditional market into a real-life Monopoly game, the “Central Market Art in Space Action Plan” has launched a “Market Monopoly” board game themed around Pingtung Central Market. To promote market tourism, visitors who participate in the Mid-Autumn Festival barbecue event at the Third Mall of Pingtung City Central Market tomorrow (the 11th) will have a chance to win one.

Taiwan’s first ever market-themed “Market Monopoly” board game is based on the spatial layout of Pingtung City Central Market. The market is divided into Malls 1, 2, 3, and 4 by streets, along with the existing Ambassador Theatre, forming Pingtung City’s first public market centered around the Four-Mall Roundabout. Together with the five main roads of downtown Pingtung, as well as prominent landmarks such as the Bank of Taiwan and First Bank, it is perfectly suited to be adapted into a board game.

However, this public market and its malls are tucked away within deep street blocks filled with private residential-commercial mixed-use buildings. Over time, they have gradually been forgotten by residents. In order to reawaken memories and help more people get to know Central Market through gameplay, the Pingtung County Government has launched “Market Monopoly,” hoping to encourage more visitors to explore and discover the depths of Pingtung City Central Market.

By participating in the Mid-Autumn Festival barbecue event at the Third Mall of Pingtung City Central Market tomorrow (the 11th), attendees can enter a lucky draw on-site to win a “Market Monopoly” board game cultural and creative gift set. There will also be the very first “Market Song” in Taiwan, plus you can watch the full documentary MV of the Art in Space Action Plan.
