Even locals don’t want to go there — Japan’s “least attractive city,” with Nagoya taking the top spot

Japan boasts abundant natural beauty and a long-standing traditional culture, with its distinctive Japanese charm loved by tourists worldwide. But what do the Japanese themselves think of their own country? Recently, a Japanese online survey asked people aged 20–64 to vote among seven major cities, and Nagoya was ranked as the city that Japanese netizens would “least like to visit.”

According to Japanese media reports, the poll conducted an online survey among residents of eight major cities — Tokyo, Yokohama, Sapporo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Fukuoka — asking which city they would most like to visit. Each city had around 418 respondents, and after calculation, Kyoto came out on top, while Nagoya was deemed the city that even the Japanese themselves least want to visit.

In the survey on which city is the most attractive, Nagoya also ranked last with just 3%, while Tokyo took the first place.
