The "Tianshan Motorcycle Team" of Xinjiang takes a group photo at the "Mount Everest Base Camp."
On July 11, news came from the Mount Everest Base Camp that eight members of Xinjiang's "Tianshan Motorcycle Team" had set off from the base camp that day for Lhasa. They will then pass through Nyingchi and Motuo into Sichuan, and continue on to Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao, Fujian, Zhejiang, Taiwan and other places. During this period, they will ride through 14 provinces and regions to promote the “Beautiful Xinjiang.”
On June 21, the Xinjiang "Tianshan Motorcycle Team" set off from Nileke County. After nearly 20 days of tough riding, the eight motorcyclists arrived at the Mount Everest Base Camp in Tibet on July 9.
Motorcyclist Cao Ying told reporters by phone that on the day they reached the Everest Base Camp, the team members, regardless of their fatigue from the journey, were busy interacting with mountaineering enthusiasts from around the world, distributing leaflets, and introducing Xinjiang’s natural scenery, local customs, as well as its economic and social development.
Cao Ying said: "The 1,445-kilometer journey from Shiquanhe to the Everest Base Camp took us over six days. Along the way, we faced numerous challenges including freezing cold, lack of oxygen, blizzards, and mudslides. Some team members also experienced exhaustion and altitude sickness, but with strong perseverance, we arrived at the Everest Base Camp as scheduled."
The Xinjiang "Tianshan Motorcycle Team" is composed of members from the motorcycle association of Nileke County in Xinjiang. It was first established in 2001, and most of the members are teachers from county-level middle schools. Their average age is 43, with the oldest being 57 years old. This is their third time taking a national riding tour during the holiday period.
