According to the latest news from the Guangzhou Marathon, registration officially opened at 10:00 AM on September 25. In just two hours, all 3,000 spots for the full marathon were snapped up. Many runners lamented that running a marathon requires not only fast feet but also quick hands.
However, runners shouldn’t be too disappointed. In addition to the Guangzhou Marathon, another event—the Vertical Marathon—will take place in November at a South China landmark: the International Finance Centre (IFC) in Guangzhou. It’s a vertical marathon held in the world’s tallest building.
A vertical marathon can also be understood as a stair-climbing or high-rise race. The organizer, Yuexiu Property, explained that the climb starts from the first-floor lobby of IFC and finishes at the Four Seasons Hotel on the 103rd floor, covering a vertical height of 432 meters and 2,652 steps—a highly challenging event. Both the race height and number of steps are the highest among similar events.
Additionally, this race offers free registration, with a total prize pool of 500,000 RMB.
