Typhoon Meranti Damage Repaired Early: Alishan Forest Railway Resumes Train Service Starting Sept. 21

The Alishan Forest Railway was forced to suspend operations on September 15 due to damage caused by the powerful Typhoon Meranti, which triggered a landslide at the 44km 700m mark. Taiwan Railways announced today that thanks to round-the-clock repair work, train services will resume as normal starting September 21.

Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) stated that after intensive repair efforts by supervisory personnel, the damaged section was reopened ahead of schedule on the morning of the 20th. Trial runs were then conducted and completed successfully, confirming that the line is safe for train operations. The main line of the Alishan Forest Railway (Chiayi ~ Fenqihu) will resume normal train services starting the 21st.
