On January 11, the 12th Red Bull Nanshan Open came to a close at Beijing Nanshan Ski Resort. As the SlopeStyle event featured in the competition is a new addition to the Sochi Winter Olympics, this edition of the Red Bull Nanshan Open attracted 36 snowboarders from 11 countries, including Finland, Norway, and the United States, among them several top athletes set to compete in the upcoming Sochi Winter Olympics. After two days of intense competition, Austrian rider Mathias Weissenbacher claimed the men's championship title in the finals by performing double backflips (two full backward rotations) and a 720-degree aerial spin off the jumps. He also took home a $20,000 prize and 850 TTR points. American riders Tim Humphreys and Ian Thorley secured second and third places respectively, while veteran Chinese rider Wang Lei achieved the best result among Chinese participants, finishing in 10th place.
