Australian man Martin Williams began his global motorcycle journey in July 2013 and has since crossed Eurasia. Just as he was preparing to head to Africa to continue his trip, his motorcycle was unfortunately stolen in Swansea, UK.
The 53-year-old Williams rode a 650CC Japanese-made motorcycle, setting off from South Korea and passing through Mongolia, Russia, the Scandinavian Peninsula, and other areas with harsh natural conditions, covering approximately 26,000 kilometers in six months. But when he arrived in Swansea, Wales, UK, the £2,500 motorcycle went “missing without a trace.”
Williams said that the hardships of the journey could not compare to the pain of having his bike stolen. “I couldn’t believe my eyes — the lock and luggage were on the ground, but the motorcycle was gone.” Williams mentioned that he had lived in Swansea for 20 years as a child and had always looked forward to returning home, only to receive such an unwelcome “gift.”
To fulfill his dream of traveling around the world, Williams’ motorcycle was specially modified to withstand harsh natural environments and road conditions. Due to the unexpected incident, his dream of circumnavigating the globe has been temporarily put on hold. “I was planning to go to Morocco and Africa next, but now I have no idea what to do.”
