On January 11, 2014, rock music trailblazer Wang Feng attended the 15th-anniversary celebration of outdoor brand Outdoor as its brand ambassador under the theme "Bravely Building, Exploring Dreams." During the event, in an exclusive media interview, Wang Feng stated that as a public figure, one needs to give back to society and take on more responsibilities.

Reporter: For 15 years, Outdoor has been passionate about public welfare. You have also served as the ambassador for the "Black-necked Crane Conservation Campaign." How do you understand taking social responsibility and engaging in public welfare?

Wang Feng: As a public figure, no matter what you do—for example, I am both a creator and a performer—I’ve always said that beyond the fame, status, and wealth you’ve already attained, if you don’t give more to society and those who deserve help, and share more of your achievements with them, then it’s all meaningless. So this has always been a principle I uphold: when we succeed, we should benefit society. I think that’s especially important.

Reporter: You also participated in Outdoor's 2013 campaign "Finding the Explorer in You." What were your thoughts on this outdoor experience?

Wang Feng: During this outdoor experience, I went with four other mentors and outdoor enthusiasts to the most rugged place—Mount Everest, the most spiritual place—Baima Snow Mountain, the most beautiful place—Shangri-La, the most sacred place—Kawagebo, and the most joyful place—Dali in Yunnan. We experienced unprecedented awe, which brought me endless inspiration, especially helpful for my exploration of original music. There are many things in life that can bring joy, but no joy can compare to achieving your ideals. Fully dedicating myself to music creation is the happiest thing for me. Having been brave is to have truly lived; holding fast to your ideals and devoting yourself wholeheartedly makes life more meaningful.

Reporter: Why did you choose to sing "Brave Heart" at Outdoor's 15th-anniversary celebration? Does it have any special meaning?

Wang Feng: "Brave Heart" is the best explanation of my own musical pursuit and Outdoor’s brand philosophy. Our spirits align perfectly. Be a little braver, and you’ll be a little closer to your dreams. I hope to explore bravely together with the Outdoor brand.

Reporter: As a mentor in the second season of "The Voice of China," you are deeply loved by the audience. Do you plan to be a mentor for the third season of "The Voice"?

Wang Feng: That’s not certain yet. In terms of my schedule, I have many concert commitments, and there will likely be an even larger-scale tour in 2014—that’s certain and very important, as it will span the entire year.

Reporter: In recent years, China has seen many singers emerging from talent shows, but there are very few singer-songwriters and original songs. What’s your view on that?

Wang Feng: I definitely hope there are more good singers, and also more good singer-songwriters, with their own works. Actually, if we want to hear more good original works, fundamentally we have to solve the copyright issue. Only when that’s resolved will China see more great songs.

It is reportedthat although recently surrounded by the "headline" incident, as a professional rock singer and songwriter, Wang Feng has not been affected at all. As someone put it: "Wang Feng doesn’t care whether he makes headlines or not, because he’s busy creating."
