Xinhua News Agency, Shijiazhuang, Nov. 13 (Reporter Baimingshan) — Affected by a weak cold front, Zhangjiakou City recently experienced its first snowfall of winter. As the host site for snow events in Beijing's Winter Olympics bid, various ski resorts in Chongli County, Zhangjiakou, have made full preparations to welcome skiers from across the country.
Wanlong Ski Resort
Wanlong Ski Resort in Chongli County began trial operations on the 12th, with more than 500 skiers from Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, Shijiazhuang, and other areas taking to the pristine slopes that day. Liu Ping, administrative director of Wanlong Ski Resort, said that the resort began trial operations on the 12th, and the arrival of natural snow added a perfect start to the season.
So far, Chongli has built four major ski resorts: Wanlong, Secret Garden · Genting, Great Wall Ridge, and Dolomiti. The area now has 82 ski runs of varying difficulty levels, spanning 69 kilometers, along with 24 cableways and magic carpets totaling 23 kilometers. The total hourly capacity of the resorts is 40,000 people. Other resorts in Chongli such as Thaiwoo are under accelerated construction. The number of visitors to Chongli’s ski resorts during the 2014–2015 snow season is expected to exceed 1.5 million.
