The King of Thailand has passed away — Grand Palace closed for 7 days & some attractions suspend shows & alcohol sales in mourning

King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away yesterday (13th), at the age of 89. The Thai Prime Minister's Office has announced that the country has entered a period of national mourning. In addition to government officials wearing black as a sign of mourning, all entertainment venues must temporarily close for 30 days. Travelers planning to visit Thailand should pay attention to the operating status of the following popular attractions.

The following attractions are known to be temporarily closed:The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew will be closed for the next 7 days; "Dinosaur Planet" will be closed on the 14th, but open as usual on the 15th; the "6996 Adult Show" will be closed on the 14th and open as usual on the 15th; the "Muay Thai Show" will be suspended from the 14th to the 16th.

In addition, other normally operating tourist attractions in Thailand have also posted notices about not selling alcohol, not playing music, and suspending performances as a sign of mourning. For example, the "Nanta percussion show" will not sell alcohol for one month; "Ramayana Water Park" will not sell alcohol or play music; "Cartoon Network Amazone" will not sell alcohol or hold performances until the end of October; visitors to the "Maruekhathaiyawan Palace (Palace of Love and Hope)" during the mourning period are required to dress formally. Regulations vary by attraction, so travelers to Thailand are advised to do their homework in advance to avoid offending local culture and spoiling the trip.
