Venice, the water city of Italy, is at its most spectacular and beautiful during the carnival season. The 2017 Venice Carnival will be grandly held from February 11 to February 28. Are you ready to join the celebration?

The Venice Carnival (Carnevale Di Venezia), alongside those in Rio and Nice, is one of the world's top three carnivals. Lasting about two weeks, it originated from the "Venetian Mask Festival" in the 12th century, approximately 1,000 years ago, and was initially held to celebrate the Venetian Republic’s military victory. It later evolved into a nationwide revelry.

Participants wear elaborate masks to conceal their real-life identities, thereby breaking free from social class and occupation constraints, and truly indulging in uninhibited celebration.

During the carnival, you can often see people dressed in court attire walking freely past you, sitting by the roadside sipping coffee, or riding on Venice’s traditional gondolas, giving an illusion of time travel.

This annual carnival attracts players from all over the world, gathering together to relive that opulent and wildly festive Venice of centuries past. Men and women, young and old, hidden behind magnificent costumes, as if turning back the clock to the mysterious, luxurious, and splendid Middle Ages.
