The Green Sanctuary of the Tsengwen Reservoir: Shizhu Island and Feiying Waterfall Feel Like a Hidden Fairyland

Want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse yourself in nature? Embark on a soul-cleansing journey to the Siraya Scenic Area right away. Nestled at the border between Chiayi County and Tainan City in Taiwan, the Tsengwen Reservoir is the largest reservoir in Taiwan. It irrigates the Jianan Plain and nurtures a rich variety of natural species and lake ecosystems. Visitors here can hop on a sightseeing cruise to take in the breathtaking views of the lake and mountains, and fully appreciate their beauty.

As Taiwan’s largest reservoir, it covers an area of up to 17.14 square kilometers at full capacity. Its boundless expanse of water presents stunning scenery and fosters a rich natural ecosystem. Watch eagles soaring in the sky, egrets skimming the lake surface and creating ripples, and night herons posing gracefully on driftwood. In addition to the lake views, be sure to explore the fairy-tale-like “Feiying Canyon” to find a secluded waterfall. At the canyon entrance, the boat will shut off its engine, allowing visitors to quietly admire the awe-inspiring beauty before them.

After exploring the hidden gem, the captain leads everyone to the adorable “Shizhu Island,” an uninhabited island that is home to wild boars. As the boat approaches the shore, opera music suddenly plays. Just as everyone is puzzled, around 20 to 30 wild boars come rushing down the hill. It turns out that these wild boars have been trained over the years to associate the sound of music with food, so they automatically come down the mountain. The sight of these spotted piglets waddling over cutely melts the hearts of all visitors.
