Nantou’s New Camping Secret Spot: Huge Swimming Pool, Grass Sledding Field & Rainbow Tube Cabins

I realized the most beautiful camping paradise,
to me, is
one that offers joyful adventures,
letting your smiles under the starry sky,
be forever captured in memories,
touching hearts always.

Spacious camp sites on open grassland.

Large cold spring splash pool (not stream water). Superb splash pool—you won’t want to leave.

Very large splash pool.

Blue Sky Grass Sledding Field (the slope is fairly long and not too fast, making it quite safe).

Rainbow Cabins (equipped with power outlets, cool and breezy—great for board games, never stuffy).

Rainbow Cabins (Rainbow Cabins come with children’s books, rest supplies, etc.—feel free to use them).

Shrimp Catching Pond (currently stocked, will open soon).

Sandpit loved by both kids and adults (you can dig deep holes).

All camping spots are thoughtfully equipped with clean, large green base covers.

Community rain shelters all feature original wooden flooring, comfortable and clean.

The camp grows dozens of types of fruits and vegetables, available for DIY picking depending on the season—with landowner permission.

All produce is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Wild-picked passion fruit—wash it and it’s really beautiful.

Here's how to get to the Star Moon Mu Family Camping Site:

Take National Highway 3, exit at the Nantou Service Area, then head down Provincial Highway 139 to the 53-kilometer mark.

At the gas station, please take the left fork.

After about 300 meters, you’ll see a FamilyMart; turn left into Fuxing Lane.

Under the FamilyMart building, they sell local agricultural products — quite good and not expensive.

Walk about 2 kilometers to the end of Fuxing Lane; at the intersection, please go left (there’s a sign next to a tree).

There are signs along the way so you won’t get lost.

Please note the opening hours at the main gate: 07:00–22:00.

Go straight to the main entrance of the campsite; check in and reserve your spot at the camp headquarters first, hey.

The camp roads aren’t too steep, so driving is quite convenient.

You can park here temporarily (the road behind the camp headquarters leads to other camping spots and you can drive around the entire site).

Uppermost camping area: let’s start with introducing Area A on the big grassland:

Outside Area A, there’s a little decorative directional hut handcrafted by the owner’s wife.

Since the grassy area is quite large, they provide small handcarts.

Can accommodate over 20 tents, perfect for solo campers.

Tents are located on both sides; estimated width per tent space is about 5–6 meters.

From the camping spots, you can enjoy views of distant mountains.

This water station includes low-brightness LED lights and 18 waterproof power outlets.

At the far end of the grassland, there are also recycling bins and a communal water tower.

Area B: Large canopy area, with very spacious and tall canopies.

Generally, camping here is cool and comfortable.

This time it’s a small group of four tents.

Hardly anyone else was camping here this week (we almost had the place to ourselves).

(With the camp owner’s permission) so feel free to choose your favorite spot to set up.

After gathering in the afternoon, the best activity for the kids was board games (Pig Head Bro just loves Lu and was the last to arrive lol).

It’s a group camping trip with newbies too, so the best evening activity is BBQ, BBQ, and more BBQ. Three grills going — so much meat we almost got dizzy and passed out XD.

The camp owner generously gave us tons of bananas. The owner said that during the recent typhoon, the bananas here in Zhongliao were totally fine and could be sold at a good price.

After eating, pack up and remember to turn off the lights and go to bed quietly and on time.

Area B has two metal canopy water stations and multiple power outlets, which is very convenient.

Area C is also a complete block (base camp, second parking lot, Grassland C, and Iron Shelter C).

This is Iron Shelter C, with space for two tents per unit — it’s quite spacious.

There are power outlets on the iron poles for your convenience.

It comes with green-bottomed X-shaped gear racks and light blue tent pegs.

The inside is super clean — please take off your shoes before entering XD.

Hsinchu campers reserved the Iron Shelter area for a night trip. On Saturday, another tent was set up, and the space is freely usable.

Every time we’re lucky to meet quiet fellow campers.

At 3 a.m., the night sky was covered in clouds and mist, with dim starlight (imagine looking down from the 1,000-meter Zhongliao highlands — it must be a sea of clouds with shimmering lights, absolutely beautiful).

The grass is clean and pristine.

The nearest restroom area for Zones A, B, and C.

Located at the center point of these three areas.

Full hot water facilities available.

To avoid sudden temperature changes, please bring a bucket to fill water inside (place it outside the door afterward).

Men’s restroom (gas and electric heaters are used separately).

Women’s restroom (when there are fewer campers, only gas water heaters are available).

The owner’s wife comes to clean at fixed times (it’s more convenient to shower with shoes off).

Now let’s check out the mid-level campsite: Independent Area D is right next to the restrooms.

The entrance grass may be muddy after rain — please be careful, and no vehicles allowed.

The newly built Area E, with brand-new rain shelters that are very clean.

Absolutely fine for two regular small tents (one tent plus one living area setup is ideal).

Area F, the quietest zone.

Friday night camp under the rain shelter (haven’t camped under a rainfly in ages, haha).

Should be fine for a small group of four tents.

Neither the power sockets nor the lights inside the iron shed are finished.

When you're out and about, it's common to carry lots of power strip extensions, so it didn't really affect us.

It’s impossible to say this campsite has no downsides—the area in front of the sink turns muddy every time it rains.

You always have to think of ways to solve the problem, right? (Two bricks did the trick).

On rainy days, there are always plenty of little inconveniences, and even at a great campsite, those small discomforts can be real mood killers.

We went night swimming in the rain all night long—quiet woods, cool evening air, just what I needed. The little joys of camping are right there with you (even if there’s no good photo backdrop).

The small Zone L has one common area and one tent—just perfect.

Next to Zone L is the passion fruit orchard (I’ve picked and eaten so many passion fruits here these past few days).

The owner’s wife cleans on time (24-hour gas water heater with hot water available).

Finally, let’s take a look at the lower-level campsite:

Zone G—if you look at the number of campsites planned on the official website, it would be even better if the number of tents could be further reduced.

But this campsite has almost no mosquitoes, which is quite rare in Zhongliao.

Zone H has a long, narrow layout and is only suitable for group bookings.

The cement area on the upper right can be used to park vehicles.

Zone J in the lower-level campsite has private bathrooms, which means you don’t have to walk far.

Parking is available at the front of the campsite.

The largest area in the lower-level campsite is Zone K (this area is being planned and will soon have an additional bathroom facility).

The campsites closest to the splash pool and shrimp-catching pool.

Right in front is the loofah-shade area—you can pick the produce but only with the campsite owner’s permission.

It’s cleaner if you take your shoes off before entering (the buckets are for bathing only—please do not take them out to play with water).

The most important part of the Star & Moon Camping site for family outings: the main office (honesty shop).

Outside the main office, there are handmade items by the owner’s wife. There are cute little stamps—you can stamp as many as you like to take home as souvenirs.

The honesty shop offers camping essentials, toys, and more (the drinks were almost all gone these past two days XD).

Overview of camping gear rental options: (tents and living tents seem to be UNRV brand—quite nice to use).

A large freezer is available for campers to use (there’s a pen and sticky notes nearby—please write your name on them).

The campsite also has one of the most creative spaces: the Rainbow House.

It will later feature a DIY crafting area, reading area, play area, and more (with power outlets available).

And there is ample lighting at night for children to play, which is really thoughtful.

How can a family-friendly campsite miss out on a splash pool? Right?

The splash pool is huge — the kids had a blast and didn’t want to leave at all.

There is a dedicated rest area for parents.

Water depth suitable for both adults and children (adjustable to 30cm, 60cm, or 90cm).

Please remember that the camp office provides cute little inflatable rings (please take care of public property).

The unfinished shrimp-catching pond will be the liveliest area in the future (currently under maintenance).

Blue Sky Grass Sledding Field (sleds provided).

The slope depends on your weight — the heavier you are, the further you slide down XD (the kids stopped sliding halfway).

The sand play area is enjoyed by both kids and adults.

We played for soooo long.

You can even build dams and create water flows — no wonder it never gets old, it’s seriously addictive.

Whether a campsite is well-prepared or not, you can tell just by looking at the camp owner.

Who would’ve thought there was so much — the yield was impressive.

Lately, most of our camping trips have been private bookings, and we haven’t been deliberately choosing campsites. Choosing a campsite two or three days before the trip has become a recent habit. Do you always have to pick popular campsites for camping? Not necessarily. As long as you LOVE camping, every campsite can be your top choice in your heart, right?
