New Brunch Option in Taichung: You Can Actually Eat “Lobster” – Super Satisfying!

When I met Sister Jingping that day, she told me that Bistro88 French-Italian Bistro had launched brunch from October, and the dishes were quite refined. There was also an 18% discount on weekdays. For someone like me who had reignited their love for brunch, I immediately added it to my must-try list. This week, I had a different brunch every day from Monday to Friday, and Bistro88 was one of my favorites among the five places.

Bistro88 French-Italian Bistro is located at the intersection of Gongyi Road and Dadun Road. I’ve dined here once before for a business lunch and had a great impression—the food was delicious and high-quality, and the ambiance was spacious and comfortable.

That day, I had to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pick up my new passport in the morning, so I didn’t arrive until around 2 p.m. There weren’t many diners at Bistro88 French-Italian Bistro, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and laid-back. The staff informed me that brunch was only served until 3 p.m. I glanced at my watch… I should still make it. Since I was already there… might as well eat!

In English, “bistro” refers to a small restaurant or pub, so the decor at Bistro88 French-Italian Bistro has a cozy bistro vibe, and the space is quite spacious. I particularly like the color scheme of the tableware—it’s very colorful, almost pop-art inspired. By the way—I ran out of battery on my camera halfway through shooting, so I ended up using my phone for the rest. Some of the photos may not be as high-quality, so please bear with them (but honestly, no one could even tell the difference between the camera and phone shots!? I’d be really upset if that were true…)

I also really like this children’s chair—it’s not from Ikea, by the way. The little one sits in it snugly and comfortably, so they don’t start fussing to get out halfway through.

Taking photos with a little one around is always tricky, so I don’t usually take pictures of menus anymore. On top of that, my camera was out of battery that day, so I had to save the battery as much as possible. The menu is available for download from their official website—did you notice? The dishes are actually hand-drawn!

Appetizer Drink – Daily Freshly Squeezed Juice. It looked like watermelon juice to me, but since I gave it to Little Cherry to drink, I didn’t get to have even a sip, so I can’t really comment. But if it’s freshly squeezed watermelon juice, the quality shouldn’t be bad.

BLT Panini – NT$240BLT stands for B=Bacon, L=Lettuce, and T=Tomato, which is pretty common in English-speaking countries. I hadn’t even finished taking a photo before the little one’s hand reached in. (Suddenly found her chubby little hand adorable—Mom couldn’t bear to delete the photo, so insisted on including it here... XD)

The potato chips seem to be a signature item at Bistro88 French-Italian Bistro, making appearances in many dishes. These chips come with a sauce, offering a sweet and salty flavor that’s crispy and delicious.

The salad was also fresh and refined, and it even had avocado!

The flavors of the dish exceeded my expectations—the bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a nice wheat aroma, and the filling was rich yet refreshing. Truly high-quality!

88 Bistro Chef’s Breakfast – NT$360This dish looks super satisfying, and the reason it’s pricey is because it includes lobster—yes, actual lobster!

The meal came with two eggs. The over-easy egg was cooked beautifully, but knowing that too much egg can raise cholesterol, I didn’t dare eat too much!

The bread was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside with a slight chewiness. Just spreading some butter and eating it plain was delightfully simple and delicious. I really enjoy this style—of course, assuming the bread itself is tasty!

They also gave a whole lobster claw, which apparently counts as half a lobster. The meat was indeed Q-textured and delicious!

There was also grilled pork belly, topped with what seemed to be teriyaki sauce—sweet and salty, which happens to be a kid’s favorite. As it turned out, Little Cherry really went for the pork belly that day, eating several pieces in a row like she’d found her absolute favorite.

Los Angeles Pancake Breakfast – NT$180This was the dish the staff recommended most, but I felt pancakes were a bit out of place for brunch. Plus, I hadn’t eaten all day, and I was afraid pancakes wouldn’t fill me up, so I skipped it.

Then when I was about to leave, the staff happened to bring out a pancake set and politely asked if I wanted to take a picture. I used the Foodie app on my phone to snap one. It really was delicious—I’ll definitely order this next time I come.

The after-meal drink was Americano coffee, and it seemed to be the only option. Thankfully, I love black coffee. It paired well with the meal and helped cut through the richness.
