Some say there are many taboos about staying in hotels, which must be strictly observed before check-in, otherwise you might encounter ghosts. But for those without religious beliefs, these taboos can all be debunked scientifically. Still, many habits continue to be retained by travelers today. Have you done any of the following six?

1. Knocking on the door and flushing the toilet

This habit is often seen during trips, and even hotel staff do it — but why? Actually, it's just to prevent there being someone else in the room. In fact, there have been cases where staff opened the wrong door, so knocking avoids the embarrassment of walking into the wrong room. As for the claim that knocking is a greeting to the "other side" or that flushing the toilet flushes away unclean things — that’s a matter of personal belief. But still, many people have this habit, and there’s nothing wrong with flushing to check if the toilet is working properly.

2. Taking photos and uploading them to get Likes

When traveling, many people take pictures of their hotel, often thinking, “Since I’ve made the trip, might as well share the joy,” and post photos of the hotel that will make others go “wow” on their social media. Although many claim they’re not showing off, there’s still a subconscious urge to rack up Likes.

3. Lying on the bed without changing clothes

Many people change clothes at home before going to bed, otherwise they feel the clothes they wore outside are too dirty. But a hotel isn’t your home, so who cares? All reservations vanish in an instant, and you just lie down and sleep however you like.

4. Wasting tissue paper for fun

Surveys show that many people use a large amount of tissue paper when staying in hotels, and some studies also indicate that a small number of cheapskates take the tissues home with them.

5. Eavesdropping on the next room

Some bored guests can't resist trying to listen in on what’s happening in the next room, experiencing a kind of live show — pretty creepy (this is just a joke). You never know who’s staying in the room next to you, so please protect yourself.

6. Sleeping with the lights on

Many solo travelers do this — staying alone in an empty hotel room can be scary for some, and sleeping with the lights on probably makes them feel safer.

There are actually many other different habits, like bringing back a bunch of snacks to eat in the hotel, or constantly switching TV channels. But no matter what the habit is, the most important thing when staying alone in a hotel is safety.
