After more than 60 years of operation, the Taipei West Bus Station will cease operations today (29th). In line with the Taipei City Government's West Gateway Plan, the bus routes from Building A of the Taipei West Station will follow the relocation of those from Building B, shifting to four new boarding and alighting points at the North Gate 1 and East Gate 3 of Taipei Main Station starting October 30.

The Taipei West Station, which is saying goodbye today, holds not only the memories of many travelers but also serves as a key transit hub for numerous long-distance bus passengers. Many travelers, upon hearing the news, have visited the station one last time to bid farewell.

Starting at 6 a.m. on October 30, the original Bus Station A routes to Zhongli, Taoyuan, Yangmei, Luodong, and Nanshanpu will be adjusted to Taipei Main Station’s North Gate 1; routes operated by Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport between Taipei and Keelung, Taipei Taoyuan Airport, and Jinshan will move to Taipei Main Station’s East Gate 3; buses traveling to and from Linkou will be relocated to the Back Station; and the Taipei–Dayuan route will be moved to Qingdao West Road Station. Other 10 short-haul routes to and from Taoyuan, Yilan, and other areas will also be adjusted to locations around Taipei Main Station.

The Taipei Department of Rapid Transit Systems stated that to accommodate the upcoming opening of the Airport MRT Line, the area west of the station—Intersection 6 Square—is a national gateway and should return to its originally planned urban use. In the future, a bus waiting area and landscaped plaza will be developed to improve traffic conditions. It is expected that Buildings B and A of the West Station will be handed over to the Taipei City Government for demolition on November 1 and November 15, respectively. After the changes, commuters transferring to the MRT are estimated to save about eight minutes of walking time.
