100,000 Bamboo Sticks Create a Snowy White World — Hsinchu’s “After Spring Snow” Becomes a Viral Photo Spot

The first “Hsinchu City International Land Art Festival” kicked off in grand style on July 30 and will run for a full year. So far, it has attracted many visitors. Among them,“After Spring Snow,” created using 100,000 white bamboo sticks, is especially popular among young people and has become a hot Instagram photo spot lately.

This year’s Hsinchu International Land Art Festival features fifteen outdoor art installations co-designed by renowned domestic and international land artists, divided into two themes: “Journey of the Wind” and “Joyful Party.” The exhibition area stretches from the back of Hsinchu Railway Station to Hsinchu Park. It aims to help Hsinchu residents develop a sense of identity and pride in their environment through these vibrant works of art.

As for the super-popular installation “After Spring Snow,” introduced this time by 《ETtoday Eastday News Cloud》, it is located within the Hsinchu Park exhibition area. Created by artist You Wenfu, it fills a circular grassy space with over 100,000 pure white bamboo sticks, creating a romantic scene reminiscent of fresh snowfall. With the frequent breeze in Hsinchu and the surrounding green trees, it becomes an almost picture-perfect view. The land art also changes in feeling with the seasons. Notably, these bamboo sticks not only represent Hsinchu but also symbolize its local specialty — rice noodles — conveying a sense of continuous growth and development.

However, we urge those who wish to visit and take photos to bear in mind that this artwork was painstakingly created by the artist and the crew with great effort and time.Although there is no official rule against entering the installation for photos, the organizers still hope that the public will take pictures while standing outside the area. This is not only to prevent damage to the artwork but also out of concern for safety, as the bamboo sticks are hard and could accidentally prick someone.
