It feels like stepping onto a movie set—Keelung’s century-old charming ruins of the Agana Shipyard

This isn't a ruin—it's a century-old historical site. The towering cement pillars show the weathered traces left by time, and the concrete, eroded by sea winds and years gone by, has peeled away severely. Located in Keelung, the Agana Shipyard drew public attention earlier this year when it was ruthlessly demolished by an excavator, and it has recently become a secret destination that netizens flock to visit.

The historic Agana Shipyard originally served as a wharf for transporting sand and ore during the Japanese colonial period. After Japan’s colonial rule ended, the mining transport industry also ceased, and the idle factory was leased to the American company Agana Shipbuilding, which primarily built yachts—hence the shipyard’s name. Later, the company withdrew from Taiwan due to poor management, and the Agana Shipyard ceased operation. But to this day, it remains a childhood memory and landmark for the people of Keelung.

Located beside the Peace Bridge in Keelung’s Heping Island, the Agana Shipyard was partially demolished by an excavator earlier this year, causing structural damage; with the loss of concrete protection, the exposed steel bars have also accelerated rusting. Although its former glory can no longer be seen, it still attracts many visitors.

We remind everyone that the Agana Shipyard has not been in use for many years, and its damaged structure has become unstable. Please walk carefully to avoid danger.

Address: Lane 116, Haibin Li, Zhengbin Road, Zhongzheng District, Keelung City (near the Keelung Indigenous Cultural Hall)
Transportation:
By car: Exit at the Keelung Interchange, drive along Zhongzheng Road, and turn into Heping Island.
By bus: Take bus 101 or 102 from Keelung Railway Station to “Heping Bridgehead (Indigenous Cultural Hall),” then walk to the destination.
