Romantic LOVE-themed installations & breathtaking night views – Hsinchu’s popular café “On the Hill”

The scenic café “On the Hill,” which began trial operations in March this year, has rapidly become a popular eatery and dating hotspot in Hsinchu with its magnificent views, blue-and-white Mediterranean-style building, and highly photogenic romantic installations that shine both day and night.

The main three-story building of On the Hill Scenic Café features a striking blue-and-white color scheme that exudes a strong Mediterranean vibe. Outside, there's a large green lawn dotted with four romantic installations, including a giant “LOVE” sign, a white arched gateway styled like a church, and a windmill. The vista offers views of the hills beyond, while couples can be seen taking photos and enjoying sweet moments together.

Some installations are illuminated at night, enhancing the romantic atmosphere, but the daytime offers even clearer, unobstructed views. It’s recommended to visit around sunset to enjoy all three—daylight, dusk, and night—views in one trip. On the Hill is not far from Hukou Old Street; visitors looking to dine and take in the sights might want to combine both spots for a fun Hukou day trip.

The three-story space at On the Hill is quite spacious and can accommodate many guests. On bad weather days, you can sit indoors on the first or second floor; on clear days, opt for the outdoor seating on the first floor or the rooftop. The rooftop offers an incredibly wide view where you can take in all the romantic outdoor installations, and at night, the city lights twinkle beautifully below – the night view is simply spectacular.

Outside food and pets are not allowed. The café serves coffee, tea, slushies, fried snacks, and other light bites, with prices ranging from just over NT$100 to NT$350.
