Unlike typical sushi spots in the market, NYUSU SUSHI 'BAR, located in Taipei’s Nanxi shopping district, boasts a European-American style. Its name is a playful nod to the sound of “NEWS.” In addition to offering innovative Japanese cuisine, the restaurant’s walls are adorned with old newspapers from around the world, while vintage horn-rimmed glasses and wooden shoe molds hang as symbols of journalists’ hard work. Eco-friendly wooden furniture adds a warm tactile feel.
Head chef and owner Tony Kuo shares that owning a sushi bar has always been his dream—to create a space free of constraints and close to people. This concept resonated instantly with renowned designer Ye Yuqing, who took charge of the overall environmental planning to craft a comfortable, multi-sensory space, while Tony oversees both front-of-house and back-of-house operations.

At NYUSU SUSHI 'BAR, chef Tony Kuo highlights the natural freshness of ingredients, pairing them with a variety of sauces made from Taiwanese produce to bring out rich, delicious flavors in the simplest way possible. Appetizers recommended by the chef include the seasonal salad, sea bream with yuzu, thinly sliced mackerel, scallop with lemon yuzu, and garlic-infused botan shrimp. For signature hot dishes, try the uni sushi sandwich, dragon roll, and tomahawk pork chop—the uni sushi sandwich is also NYUSU’s signature item, layered with Canadian uni, New Zealand avocado, and vinegared rice.
