As 2016 draws to a close and December brings Christmas and New Year’s Eve, these special celebration-worthy holidays are the perfect time to soak in some romance at a ferris wheel. ETtoday EBC News Cloud has specially compiled a list of 5 top ferris wheels across Taiwan. Some offer sweeping city views, others even boast vistas of the Pacific Ocean – both day and night scenes are simply mesmerizing.

Kaohsiung Eye (OPEN Ferris Wheel)

Located in Dream Mall Kaohsiung, the “Kaohsiung Eye” is one of the few ferris wheels in Taiwan where you can enjoy ocean views. It also holds the title of the highest above-ground ferris wheel in Taiwan, with a total height of 102.5 meters including the building. In 2013, its gondolas were painted with the adorable image of OPEN Xiaojiang.

With over 100 lighting variations based on 10 themes such as water, flowers, fireworks, wind, rainbow, hurricane, and the four seasons, each ride takes about 15 minutes. Inside the gondola, you can even hear OPEN Xiaojiang sing and introduce the scenery you pass, including Sizihwan, Kaohsiung Harbor, and Shoushan. Viewing these landmarks from high above, especially at night, is incredibly beautiful.

Miramar Entertainment Park Ferris Wheel

The largest ferris wheel in Northern Taiwan is located at Miramar Entertainment Park in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District. At a total height of 100 meters, it’s the second tallest in Taiwan. A full ride takes about 17 minutes, making it the longest ride of any ferris wheel in Taiwan. At night, the wheel glows green and features regular light shows, making it a favorite dating spot for many young people in Taipei, especially during busy holiday seasons like Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

Janfusun Fancyworld Rainbow Ferris Wheel

The Rainbow Ferris Wheel at Janfusun Fancyworld boasts an impressive diameter of 88 meters, towering over all others in Taiwan. However, as it's built on flat land, it only ranks third in terms of highest above-ground elevation in Taiwan. Standing at around 30 stories high, the view from below is truly spectacular. Themed with rainbow colors to match the playful atmosphere of the amusement park, it looks even more magical.

Farglory Ocean Park Ferris Wheel

The Love Ferris Wheel in Hualien Yuan Xiong Ocean Park stands 100 meters above the ground with a diameter of 31 meters, making it one of the largest Ferris wheels in eastern Taiwan. The scenery in eastern Taiwan is naturally stunning, and riding the Ferris wheel offers breathtaking views of the mountains and sea. A 12-minute ride leaves you wanting more. Yuan Xiong Ocean Park stated that they replaced the heart-shaped cabins with mascot-themed ones a few months ago. The new cabins are more in line with the park’s image, are much roomier, and offer an even better view.

E-DA World Amusement Park

When it comes to Ferris wheels in Kaohsiung, you can’t miss the E-DA Ferris Wheel. With a diameter of 80 meters and a ride lasting about 18 minutes, it offers sweeping views of the city, especially dazzling when lit up by its 128 light shows at night. As the New Year approaches, E-DA World Amusement Park becomes especially lively during its annual countdown fireworks show, which pairs perfectly with the Ferris wheel’s colorful lights for a truly magical experience.
