A Super Popular Japanese-Style Ice Shop in Pingtung’s Alleys – Q-Textured Limited-Edition Handmade White Pearls!

On the strong recommendation of family, we finally came to explore this Japanese-style ice shop tucked away in the alleys. In late 2014, a young couple launched their own brand and opened an ice shop named “Xiao Mimi Sa Na” (小秘密さな). At that time, the shop had an open-concept layout, but it was later renovated into the charming Japanese-style store it is today. The couple built their reputation through word of mouth, achieving what they have now. Our family has always loved their ice treats and eventually became loyal customers.

Though it's a small shop hidden in the alleys, it has already gained some local fame. On weekends, it's often so packed that you can hardly find a seat. Customers of all ages come here, which made us even more excited about the ice treats ahead.

There aren’t many seats inside, and after noon, the place quickly fills up with guests. It gets bustling and lively. We really like the overall atmosphere of the shop—subtle Japanese style with wooden décor adding warmth. It’s definitely the kind of place literary youths would enjoy.

The counter has single seats, so even if you’re here alone, you won’t feel awkward.

Their main offerings include ice cream and shaved ice, as well as hot sweet soups.

The shop puts a lot of care into its ingredients, displaying them transparently so customers know exactly what they’re getting. Ordering is self-service—you check off your choices and then order at the counter.

Kyoho Grape Shaved Ice – NT$120 (no ice cream)
A large spherical shaved ice piled high with Kyoho grapes, served with fresh grape syrup that you can drizzle over the ice. The flavor is natural, purely grape-based, refreshing and perfect for beating the heat.

Cantaloupe Japanese-Style Shaved Ice – NT$60 (no toppings)
For those who prefer something simpler, try the Japanese-style shaved ice. It contains no toppings and relies solely on fruit syrups for flavor. We opted for cantaloupe—a clean, straightforward treat.

Meiji Matcha Ujikintoki Shaved Ice + Ice Cream – NT$150
A visually stunning dessert: a mountain of matcha shaved ice topped with a scoop of matcha ice cream, along with red beans and matcha jelly. A must-try for any matcha lover.

The white pearls are handmade daily by the shop and are available in limited quantities—they sell out fast. We were lucky enough to get some, and my husband loved how chewy and Q-textured they were.

The matcha syrup drizzled over the shaved ice is specially selected—it has a natural tea aroma, and the taste is refreshingly light without being overly sweet. Truly impressive.

The red beans are sourced from Wan Dan in Pingtung—plump and incredibly smooth. Paired with the matcha shaved ice, they create an addictive flavor combo.

The shop has a corner with self-serve drinks and utensils.

Whether in ingredient selection or ice design, the shop has put in a great deal of effort—and it completely won us over. No wonder our family strongly recommended this place. That Pingtung has such a high-quality ice shop is just wonderful. From the interior decor to the unforgettable ice treats, this shop’s success is no accident. Next time we’re back in Pingtung, we’ll be sure to stop by again. Such delicious ice deserves to be shared—we highly recommend it.
