I’ve been visiting quite a few traditional breakfast spots in Taichung lately, so there will probably be a series of posts. One of them is this place called "Penghu Breakfast," which is super popular... I mentioned in the previous post that my current lifestyle is: wake up, freshen up, then take Little Cherry out for breakfast to enjoy some mother-daughter time... Brunch spots are often crowded, and some dishes are just uninspired. Most importantly... I’m always worried about disturbing other diners when bringing a little one to a brunch place!

"Penghu Breakfast" is located on Guoqiang Street in North District. This area is mostly residential. We came around 10 a.m. on a weekday, so the crowd wasn’t as big as on weekends, but there was a steady stream of customers coming and going...
How I found out about this breakfast spot is... a while ago, a well-known writer criticized Taichung’s breakfast culture, right? Then someone—maybe a netizen? Or a blogger?—wrote a post recommending 7 must-try breakfast spots in Taichung, and "Penghu Breakfast" was ranked number one...
But~ I’m not sure if being ranked first means it was just the first one introduced or if it’s truly the author’s top pick...

Restaurants that do well often worry about becoming bad neighbors—making money for themselves but causing trouble for those nearby, so... please don’t park your car haphazardly in front of others’ homes, okay? XD

The menu items you see above are pretty much it, and the selection is surprisingly limited—I was a bit shocked... (No exaggeration, seriously... XD) I would’ve thought at least options like plain egg crepe, corn egg crepe, pork & scallion egg crepe, tuna egg crepe... would be available, but nope—just the word "egg crepe" on the board... I even double-checked a few times to make sure I wasn’t missing anything...

They say their buns are also pretty good, but it’s just the two of us—one adult and one little one—so we couldn’t eat that much. Guess we’ll have to come back next time to conquer more!

After ordering, the owner gives you a number ticket... (I got number 91, wow... almost hit 100!)

What’s special about "Penghu Breakfast" is... their egg crepes are made to order, hand-rolled and pan-fried right in front of you. Unlike most breakfast shops that use pre-made crepe wrappers from the market, this alone shows they really care. Apparently, "Penghu Breakfast" is now managed by the second generation, so the man diligently cooking the crepes in the photo is probably the second-generation owner?

I ordered the basic combo—a mom-and-daughter favorite, and it seems almost every table orders the standard egg crepe + wonton soup combo!

Egg crepe / Fried egg - NT$30 + NT$13
To avoid being hungry, I also added an extra fried egg... (Nutrition 100%!)

The egg crepe is crispy on the outside, just perfectly fried—not the type of crispiness like "Youli Crispy Egg Crepe," but with a slight smokiness that’s actually quite unique...

I asked for my fried egg to be half-cooked. When eaten with the crepe, it adds a richer flavor. But I didn’t give the runny yolk to the little one, so Little Cherry just stuck to the egg crepe...

Wonton soup - NT$40
Egg crepe with wonton soup might sound a bit weird, right? But everyone eats it this way here—it’s probably people like me who find it odd who are the strange ones...

The wontons were pretty average for me, but our little Cherry actually finished the whole bowl of soup by herself—scared me to death, XD!

Soy milk - NT$15
We also liked the soy milk—it had a nice bean aroma, and the sweetness wasn’t too strong...
