The probability of Typhoon Mangkhut hitting Taiwan has significantly increased, along with a heavy rain warning for another tropical depression.

There is also a tropical depression with a pressure of 1002 hPa, located at 21.5°N, 123.0°E at 2 p.m. on the 9th, in the Bashi Channel. Its center is nearly stationary, bringing heavy to torrential rain to the eastern, southern, and northern parts of Taiwan. Special precautions against heavy rain and potential flooding and landslides are needed over the next week. Ships sailing or operating in the eastern Taiwan sea area and the Bashi Channel should also be especially cautious.

Due to the passage of a frontal system and strengthening northeasterly winds, temperatures have dropped slightly, ranging between 26–32°C. Rain is expected to ease on Wednesday but conditions remain unstable. From Thursday onward, most of Taiwan will continue to experience rainy weather, and attention should also be paid to whether Typhoon Mangkhut and the tropical depression may develop into Typhoon No. 23.

In addition, a magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred off the coast of Hualien on the 9th. With recent earthquakes in Hokkaido and Fiji, some seismologists suggest this could be a precursor to a major earthquake, so it's wise to stay prepared for seismic safety on a daily basis.
