Moon Lake in Dunhuang
This is known as the “First Spring in the Desert,” as an ancient poem goes, “The sand flies and whistles in the wind, while the spring reflects the moon without a speck of dust.” A crescent moon rises early, and half the lake mirrors with crystal clarity. No matter how the wind blows the sand, it never reaches the spring, which holds still waters that coexist in harmony.
Watching the moon in the desert means no light pollution or obstruction from tall buildings. Climb up the sand dunes, and you’ll feel as if you’re seeing a giant moon, along with the starry sky set against the vast canopy above.
