How to use plastic bags outdoors?
Plastic shopping bags are all too familiar to everyone, but would you bring them along on outdoor activities? Do you know what other functions plastic shopping bags can serve in the outdoors? Here we’ll share some ways to use plastic shopping bags during outdoor activities. It should be noted that the vast majority of plastic shopping bags are made from non-degradable materials and should not be discarded after outdoor use.
1. Wrapping items: Place small items such as mobile phones, watches, point-and-shoot cameras, and medications into a shopping bag, fold it repeatedly to wrap them securely, and then secure it tightly with a rubber band. This provides good waterproofing and moisture resistance (tested by submerging in water for several minutes without leaking).
2. At the campsite, plastic bags can be used as water-carrying or water-storage tools according to your needs, placed in depressions or hung up high.
3. As a shower bag: Fill the shopping bag with water, hang it at an appropriate height, and poke a small hole in it. If needed, you can also heat some water with a stove to adjust the water temperature to your liking. This method is very convenient and practical.
4. Use as a night urinal while camping: After use, tie the bag securely and place it outside the tent’s entrance area for future emergencies.
5. When camping in desert areas, plastic bags can replace tent pegs as needed—fill them with sand and bury them under the loose sand at the four corners of the tent to connect guy ropes and secure the tent. In stronger winds, they can also be tied to the tent to enhance stability using gravity.
6. Tie them to tree branches or other objects as trail markers—they flutter in the wind and are highly visible (make sure the rear group retrieves them and does not leave them in the wild).
7. Collect outdoor trash.
Plastic bags weigh next to nothing and are easy to carry, providing many conveniences for your trip. Please feel free to add more uses if we’ve missed any. To maximize the multifunctionality of gear during outdoor activities, we hope everyone can share their practical tips and experience using everyday equipment (or items), helping to lighten the load on outdoor trips.
