Building the New Taipei City tourism brand: A one-day tour of Shuijinjiu for just NT$199

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications and New Taipei City have announced a joint effort to create a new highlight for Taiwan’s tourism—Shuijinjiu. Shuijinjiu refers to the areas of Shuinandong, Jinguashi, and Jiufen in Ruifang. The Ruifang area has long been the most memorable travel destination in New Taipei City for foreign tourists, with visitors often first thinking of Jiufen Old Street. In fact, Shuinandong and Jinguashi still hold lesser-developed, uniquely charming spots. The goal of creating the new Shuijinjiu brand is to connect the attractions of these three areas to establish an internationally renowned tourist destination. To promote the event, starting September 1, the public can sign up for a one-day experiential tour of Shuijinjiu for just NT$199, enjoying a tour package originally valued at NT$800.

Tourist attractions in Shuijinjiu such as the 13 Levels Site, Gold Ecological Park, Japanese Prisoners of War Camp, Jiufen Old Street Commercial Area, and Shengping Theater are important historical landmarks that bear witness to Taiwan’s gold mining industry development. However, transportation and the distribution of attractions have long been disorganized and not effectively integrated. This project aims to establish the country’s first passenger center integrating cultural and artistic performances in Shuinandong, while also connecting attractions such as the Jinguashi POW Camp, Qitang Old Street, Quanji Temple, and the Gold Ecological Park to expand the visitor route. In Jiufen, the Shengping Theater will be restored, hosting static exhibitions and resuming its performance functions such as movie screenings.

To address the common issues of traffic congestion and inconvenience for travelers visiting the Ruifang area, visitors can now take the colorfully painted Shuijinjiu shuttle bus to easily explore the region. In addition, the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle’s Golden-Fulong Line, which already has stops at the Gold Ecological Park, Jiufen, and Ruifang Railway Station, will add a stop at Shuinandong starting September 16 to make it more convenient for tourists. Meanwhile, the one-day Shuijinjiu tour, available for registration starting September 1 at just NT$199, includes transportation, guided tours, and DIY activities. There are a total of 2,000 spots available. Registration can be done through the Ubus Tour website or by visiting a Ubus ticket counter.
