Summer is the peak typhoon season every year. Over the past few decades, the earliest typhoons have appeared in April, and the latest as late as December, but the most active months are July, August, and September. Taiwan's geographic location makes it a key route and turning point for typhoons, so it often faces typhoon threats. To avoid typhoon disasters, here are essential preparedness tips.

1. Water
Water is the most fundamental necessity for survival. Not only should you prepare drinking water, but also water for general use. During a typhoon, it may be inconvenient to go out, and water supply could be cut off. Without stored water at home, things can get very difficult. It’s important for both drinking and cleaning.

2. Dry Rations
Besides water, food is the next most critical item. When a typhoon hits, make sure to stock up on sufficient dry rations and food, such as biscuits, instant noodles, canned goods, etc. While keeping an eye on the latest typhoon developments, don’t let yourself go hungry. These supplies can also serve as emergency provisions if needed.

3. First aid kit and essential medications
Typhoon weather brings wind and rain, and to prevent dangers and disasters, it’s crucial to prepare a first aid kit in advance. If you or your family have chronic illnesses, it’s also recommended to have essential medications ready in case of emergencies when access to medicine may be limited.

4. Radio and flashlight
Power outages are possible during typhoons. When external news is unavailable, a traditional radio is the best tool for staying informed. A flashlight can also provide illumination, reducing the risk of accidents—but make sure to have spare batteries on hand in case they run out.

5. Swiss army knife and whistle
Typhoon weather can lead to unexpected situations like flooding or landslides. If you’re trapped or someone is in distress, having small tools like a Swiss army knife can help with self-rescue. A whistle can also be used to call for help, enabling rescuers to locate you as quickly as possible.

6. Power banks and batteries
Power outages are common during typhoons. In addition to preparing devices like radios and flashlights, which require batteries, it’s wise to stock up on dry cell batteries in advance. You might also want to prepare power banks for charging electronic devices.

7. Supplies for children
For families with young children, it’s also recommended to prepare baby essentials, including diapers, formula, etc.

8. Rain gear
Typhoon weather is unpredictable, and you might need to go out at any time—or face potential flooding at home. Having complete rain gear can provide an extra layer of protection.
