Severe Typhoon Maria, an accelerating northwest-bound typhoon, is forecasted to affect Taiwan earlier than previously expected. Due to its significant impact on northern Taiwan including Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, and Yilan, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has moved up the timing for announcing the typhoon holiday to 10:00 AM on the 10th.

Maria is moving at a speed of 29 kilometers per hour and accelerating, heading northwest. Its maximum sustained wind speed is 55 meters per second, with gusts reaching up to 68 meters per second. The radius of seven-level winds is 280 kilometers, and ten-level winds extend 100 kilometers.

The sea warning, originally expected to be issued on the evening of the 9th, may be issued as early as the afternoon. The land warning could also be issued as early as the early hours of the 10th. Residents in northern regions should prepare for the typhoon well in advance. Those with travel or overseas plans should also pay close attention to weather and transportation updates.
